Drug Rehab

Not a day goes by without hearing of some celebrity being admitted to a drug rehab center. While more and more celebrities address their issues, the reality is that substance abuse and addiction is a more widespread problem in the 21st century society. A recent report from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health says that almost 25 million Americans above the age of 12 are in serious need for drug addiction treatment and only 1/6th of them have received that treatment. While more than half of those people received their treatment at a specialty treatment facility such as a hospital, drug or alcohol rehab center or a mental health center, the remainder received treatment through self-help groups, jail, private doctors, or other methods. Besides societal stigma, there are many reasons that are preventing people from seeking the treatment at the earliest. Apart from the obvious health issues associated with some drugs, continued abuse can lead to higher risk behavior. Cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, lung diseases are some of the diseases that are caused by continued intake of drugs. Besides these, there is the danger of spread of diseases such as hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases through drug abuse over a long period of time. Thus it is essential to seek drug rehabilitation as early as possible.
