Importance of proper sleep

Quality sleep has always been one of the under-rated steps towards maintaining good health. Recent studies have shown that on an average, 8 hours of sleep a day, is essential for a person to have a healthy life. Obesity, increased risk of diabetes, heart attack, high blood pressure and hyperactivity and ultimately psychosis are some of the potential health hazards of improper sleep habits over a long period of time. Thus the importance of proper rest cannot be stressed more. In our increasingly hectic lifestyle, it is getting increasingly difficult for children and adults alike to have proper sleep habits. Sleep habits often doesn't comprise of the amount of time that a person sleeps alone. It is important to go to bed and rise with the sun. A person should take care not to have a heavy dinner-not consume food heavy on calories just before he goes to sleep. The quality of the bedding is equally important. We spend so much on many luxuries and yet invariably we tend to save, while buying our beds and mattresses. This should be avoided. Go ahead, have a good night's sleep and you will realize the benefits almost immediately.
