Are you fat?

Obese,overweight,fat-these are just some of the labels used for ranges of weight that are greater than what is generally considered healthy for a person of a given height. Besides affecting our mobility, obesity is also likely to cause certain diseases and other health problems. Obesity has been known to cause many diseases, like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep. Obesity is now a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, with increasing prevalence in adults and children, and it is being viewed as one of the most serious public health issues of the 21st century. The past twenty years has seen a dramatic increase in the number of obese people in our society. Various reasons have been put forth for this increase, including a combination of excessive dietary calories, lack of physical activity, genetic susceptibility, environments that promote increased food intake and increased consumption of unhealthy junk foods.Doctors advise that the primary ways to reduce obesity on an individual level is through dieting and physical exercise. In case this fails, anti-obesity drugs may be taken to reduce appetite or inhibit fat absorption. Major national policies that promote making healthy choices in nutrition and physical activity available affordable and easy will likely be the most effective measure in combating obesity on a national level.
